Saw a sneak peak at the 'Cats' set that will be presented by Garland Summer Musicals. It looks FANTASTIC! Not to give the ending away but it will promise to impress. Meanwhile, down the hall, literally, in the small theatre at the Granville Arts Center, my little show is coming along. Painting is a day away...well two days away.

My set is being built for The Mikado and it's looking great. Couldn't be happier! However, my car is no more so this should be an interesting couple of weeks.
I picked up this wonderful vintage magazine to help me with my research for Pillow Talk. It's a copy of The Saturday Evening Post and it's marked September 19th, 1959. I really love the modern kitchen with the rotating tray dishwasher and turquoise stove top and oven! What makes that even better you have Ms. Homebody with pearls around her neck getting ready to serve the turkey that's in oven, complete with chiffon apron!
Went to the In & Out Burger here in Dallas last night. Amazing! They are California based. They made their way here earlier this year, yum yum. I love the palm trees they placed around the building. Palm trees do not do that well here in the winter. They will soon figure this out. Going to have me some more In & Out in the near future.... like tonight!
Waiting to paint my Mikado set next Saturday. I have five people ready to base coat. Let's get this show open!
Working on my first drawings for Pillow Talk. How do you fit two apartments on stage...with multiple sets? This is what I am trying to figure out. I like to go with the saying "Keep it simple stupid". Trying to live in the late 50's to get the feel of the show.
I have been off for a total of four days to observe the holiday. Now that it is over it is time to focus on a design for Pillow Talk. I know nothing about this play other than it was a movie. The set is circa 1959 inside an interior designer's apartment. This will be most tricky to find retro things that don't look like it's been beat. It can be done because I may know of a place to get the goods! Since I mainly have a cartoon style I am aiming to making this set as real as I can get. Browsing through The Official D'oyly Carte Picture History. It shows some of the original colored concepts for set and costume. Found this book at Half Price Books for cheap, love that place!
