Mikado Model Almost Finished! The work I have left to do on the model, to the right, is make the Japanese bride and two platforms. In this theatre most everyone can see the floor as it's stadium-ish seating. For grins, I thought about cutting out the silhouettes of audience members and placing them in the first three rows to get the full effect. If I have time I will do it! It's now time to get the drafting board ready to draft up plans. You know, I preferred making the model first. I was able to solve some mistakes that could have been made during the build. Some sizes I liked and other sizes I am going to change in the drafting plans.

I have been working on my model, as you may know, and by doing so my watercolor skills have improved some. I decided to take water color paper and draw the set pieces in scale paint & then cut them out using an exacto knife. Once finished I glued white foam board to the back and the bottom so they can stand free on there own. Most of the actual set will be quarter inch plywood that will be layered to give a very particular, layered look.
Model of the Theatre in 3/8 Scale Finished the model I made of the stage at the Granville Arts Center. It turned out really well. Now that's out of the way it's time to create the stage scenery to plug in. For the stage scenery I am working with water color elevations backed with white foam board. I should be finished Sunday & after that it's time to create the blueprints. I got the rehearsal hall ready today. Getting that ready is like making a giant blue print, in-scale, on the floor with duct tap. Everything should look like your ground plan or as close as you can squeeze it in. This can sometimes be tricky as this rehearsal hall is smaller than the actual space. I also started making the model today too. I decided today that I wanted a black shell for the theatre and then a colorful model so it would pop real nice. Here is what I have so far. This should be ready next Monday.
Today my dad took me out for a Sunday lunch at Saltgrass Steak House. They have great food and a Texas, rustic atmosphere. I had Pat's Ribeye with a loaded potato. My dad had babyback ribs, shrimp, soup and two margaritas. Was tasty! I especially like the long horn chandeliers throughout the place.
Under Water Hotel Room in Fiji I came across this really amazing hotel. They have not finished building it yet but I want to go. It is located in Fiji on a very small island. Your room is 40 feet below sea level. The cool part is your in a glass bubble. This underwater resort is all inclusive. This means golf, food, most alcohol, stay is included, your on your own for spa treatments. Your even flown in on a private plane! What's the price tag on this once in a life time trip?! $15,000.00 per person! Who wants to take me? Working the box off tonight at Broken Gears Project Theatre here in Dallas. Make sure you get you tickets for The Hand directed by Andy Baldwin.
I just bought a new, vintage tole ware inspired desk lamp on Ebay to help me with my set design work. This lamp is around 60 years old. Also looking at a cool drafting table with a glass top and slide out drawer.
Went to the dome Imax theatre at the Science Place at Fair Park. I saw Sea Rex. It was about prehistoric sea creatures. It was interesting, informative and off course eye popping in the dome. The Imax sits in the worlds largest collection Art Deco buildings in the world.
Interior of The Cheesecake Factory Had a great time with my sister today at The Cheesecake Factory. We had fantastic food and of course cheesecake. The inside of The Cheesecake Factory is beautiful. It's a mix of Art Nouveau & Egyption with darkwood and sand granite countertops. The menu is very over whelming, it has over 20 pages and has over 70 options for desert! All in all over 200 options to choose from! |
My blog is all about the design process, set design, designers I love and architecture. Take a look behind the curtain!
