This is the time of year where any set designer needs to stock up on props and or set dressing specialties. That's because it's Halloween season and this season is where finding cobwebs, gossamer's lace, bats and trick pictures that change right in front of you are super easy to find.
You can still locate these things but it is much more difficult to do so. You just never know what strange prop or set dressing list you will bump into down the road. A few years ago I bought a creepy bust of Dracula and Medusa for just a few dollars on clearance and now they are making their stage debut. These props will be the few pieces on stage that will give the design an extra umph.

Gearing up for my next project today. Mentioned in an earlier post, I am redesigning a current set that is still standing, Man of la Mancha. I have just a day to turn that into Dracula's dungeon. This is perfect seeing how La Mancha was set in a dungeon. This show was written by the director and will make it's world premier next week. I would also like to add with hard dedication from Jeff Swearingen, director and writer, and our wonderful producer, Bren Rapp, it is no wonder why Funhouse Theatre & Film has made Best Children's Theatre in Dallas for 2012. Check out the video promotion below! Well, my computer had to go into the shop, hence no posts since the first of October. Wait around another week and I will be back in full blog force. Until then please browse my other posts or take a look at my lastest set design.
A Retired Department 56 Halloween Piece My favorite time of the year is here, fall! The weather is cooler, pumpkins spice coffee drinks are at your favorite coffee shop and Halloween time is near. This means I get to set out my Department 56 Halloween village. This company makes incredibly detailed miniature houses and scenes. I own so much I have them stored in my parent attic. It's also time to think about what haunted houses I will attend. Click here to check out the Halloween scenes. |
My blog is all about the design process, set design, designers I love and architecture. Take a look behind the curtain!
