Sometimes a locally staged Dallas production has been better than the Broadway national tour. This was the case at last's night's show directed by Andy Baldwin. When Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps toured back a few years ago at the beautiful Majestic Theatre I really didn't know what to think of the show. Muddled accents, questionable stage pieces that did not work with the plot of the show, and other little odds & ends made the show feel stale, could be the dry British humor. One thing that helped this local Dallas show stand out, besides the perfect cast and direction, was staging this in a small venue. Bob Lavallee, set designer, created a beautiful gold proscenium arch complete with shell foot lights. So.....go out and see the last performance at Theatre Arlington and enjoy local theatre without the expense of a high price touring show.
