Showed the director the finished model for Spamalot. Working in small scale helps work out any problems you may have in large, people scale. I overdesigned the show when I created the original ground plan. This hit me when I was working in 3d. Had to cut a set piece.
Below are some of the pictures I took of the model. These are just a few looks as this show has about twenty set changes!

The past week I have revised a set and completed the build plans (my carpenter rocks!) for a show in Plano, Tx. I have also been trying to finish up my model for my other show, Lewisville, Tx. They both open a week and a half from one another. I have never overlaped designs before.....it's tricky.
I am excited about both designs. I like to see the entire design process from idea to rendering to blueprints to the real thing. Things change along the way but that's to be expected. Below is my halfway completed model for Spamalot, click to enlarge! You can also see how messy my worktable gets. Had a great meeting with my carpenter for The Sound of Fanny today. Just need to finish two more construction drawings on this design and then it will be time to complete the model for Spamalot for another theatre! Doing all of this while starting a new job. Busy Busy!
I drafted a couple of hours tonight for The Sound of Fanny design. Meeting tomorrow with the carpenter to go over the entire design on paper. Finishing up tomorrow's drafting after I attend a surprise meeting at work tomorrow morning. It does take me little longer to draft becuase I do it all by hand and really enjoy it. Once it's all drafted I scan a copy and place on my computer for safe keeping. Found out today I may have a helper or assistant for the Spamalot design. Most helpful!! I would like to thank you John for the extra work and help for this show...thank you, thank you! Spamalot meeting will be sometime next week. Having a production meeting this Tuesday on final set plans for The Sound of Fanny. It's going to be a great show! Get dates and times here.
I get to play paper dollies tomorrow with the model I made. The director and producer will get to play too! Below is a picture of my cat helping me. All she really did is scratch her neck on the sharp corners and attach my hands. She helped out lots!
Here is the model for The Sound of Fanny for Fun House Theatre & Film I am working on.
This scene in one of many set changes. Watched Flashdance the movie, it was my first time seeing it. I was stumbling through Netflix and it suggested that I may like it. Well, after watching the live stage show I thought it might be fun to watch, it was! I could see from watching the movie how the set designer for the us tour was inspired from the movie. Several things that I loved in the stage show were evident in the movie, like the really cool sliding panels on certain set pieces that slid up and down (stage show) like the elevator scene in the movie. I saw that scene in the movie and my brain went ah ha! that's how that piece made it's way into stage show. Neat seeing how someone else was inspired. Click here to watch the stage promo video (video of really cool set). Adding this extra comment after I published this post. I like how Jennifer Beals didn't dance at the end and they sent in a double that looked nothing like her with a bad wig. They even showed her face, you could clearly tell it wasn't her, but the dance was good. "When you give up your dream you die." I just finished the Director's ground plan for the new musical The Sound of Fanny, presented by Fun House Theatre & Film.
