My set for Fun House Theater & Film's Daffodil Girls started it's build today.  Set load in is my favorite thing. After research, meetings, plans & models you get to see your work come to life! 

Had a surprise today!  I live about 7 stop lights or so from Love Field Airport.  So I decided to to venture out towards the other side of Lemmon Avenue, runs past the airport.  Went into a Panda Express sat down and was shocked to see such a stunning view of downtown Dallas, the airport and the lake, it was like I could have reached out and touched it.  Got my food sat down and saw Air Force One taxi on the runway and then take off!  How cool is that?!  Please enjoy my crummy video I took (scrambled for my phone). As some of you may know that my favorite ride at Disneyland is The Haunted Mansion. Well the new, high tech version of this ride, Mystic Manor, is about the open in a few weeks at Hong Kong Disneyland!  Who not to compose the music to this ride but my favorite composer, Danny Elfman.  The closest I will get is riding this ride by watching it.  Ride it below before it opens to the public.  You can also click the picture to the left to enlarge.

Finished my rendering of the Farmington Valley Stage Company's production of Noises Off!  This will be the second time I have designed this show, was hard the first time.  For this time around I have a whole new color palate that I don't think has been done or if it has not done often.  

After my current show goes up this next week it will be time to focus on the Noises Off set design I have going on in Connecticut!  I have designed this show once before but the second time around means I can either fix what didn't work or give it a whole new look.  I must have very detailed plans and elevations because I will not be there to add my handy paint job and finishing touches. 

Below was the first time I designed the production.  The challenge with this show is the demand on the set.  This set must revolve multiple times, door handles must break on cue and work properly when not being broken.  That's just the tip of the iceberg but I think I am ready for this challenge....again.

For the past few days I have not blogged but Squidooed.  Yes, you heard me correctly, I Squidooed.  Sounds crazy but it's true.

Squidoo is this great website where you can publish your own stories.  I just wrote one on painting.  You should read it and let me know what you think.  Also, I have a spot where you can share an embarrassing story, I'd love to hear it. Check it out!

Today I turned in my build plans to the carpenter.  I met him at a great little coffee house on Main Street in Dallas.  I do not remember the name but it was, in my opinion the coolest coffee house in Dallas, sorry big coffee chain.  It reminded of the Orange Couch Coffee in New Orleans. 

Across the street is a theatre called Undermain.  They call it Undermain because it is literally under Main Street. I received a little impromptu tour of the space after showing him my plans, he is on staff here.  The Broadway award winning set designer, John Arnone, has his latest design up at this theatre.  A fun little fact about the seating in subterranean space are the seats, they were originally designed for the Kalita Humphries Theatre designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Check out their latest show The Ghost of Sonata opening this weekend.

I have my design!  Nailed down the ground plan and started drafting full plans while watching the 25th anniversary performance of The Phantom of the Opera.
